PGCert in Psychological Trauma and PGCert in Mental Health, Trauma and Attachment

The University of Chester has a long tradition of educating and training people to work with those who have experienced adverse and traumatic life conditions and events. Our Psychological Trauma PGCert and Mental Health, Trauma and Attachment PGCert acknowledge that a growing number of modern professionals find themselves working with traumatised individuals and populations, and self-care and professional quality of life and well-being are considered throughout the courses. Influenced by trauma-informed approaches in teaching, our learning programmes build on experiential, reflexive, and peer learning, as well as providing the necessary academic and evidence-based input you’ll need to develop and refine your expertise.
Psychological trauma has been a growing area of interest across disciplines and roles for many years, and our one-year, Level 7 degree is an accessible course delivered exclusively online that provides all professionals working with trauma the up-to-date knowledge and criticality required to navigate the trauma landscape.
Our Mental Health, Trauma and Attachment course (previously named 'Attachment, Trauma and Mental Health') is delivered by experienced Childhood, Education and Professional Development academics with a range of education backgrounds. The course investigates the impact of attachment, adversity, trauma and mental health difficulties and the role of professionals in mitigating this impact. The course content is underpinned by the latest research in this rapidly evolving field and has been fully redesigned and reimagined for delivery in 2025, ensuring that its curriculum provides you with the most cutting-edge and contemporary knowledge to support children, young people and adults across all settings.
If you have questions ahead of the event, feel free to contact the course programme leaders Dr Marie Chollier (PGCert Psychological Trauma) and Sarah Collins (PGCert Mental Health, Trauma and Attachment).
