Daryn Egan-Simon

Dr Daryn Egan-SImon is a Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Chester. Daryn is the subject Lead for the PGCE History course and teaches on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in primary and secondary education. Before moving to Higher Education in 2016, Daryn spent over ten years in secondary education teaching a range of subjects including history, politics and citizenship education in both English and Welsh schools. Daryn is also the co-founder of the grassroots CPD movement, BrewEd.

Dr Daryn Egan-Simon is an experienced lecturer involved in teaching various undergraduate and postgraduate modules, spanning both primary and secondary Initial Teacher Education programs. He holds the position of Subject Lead for the History PGCE course, demonstrating his experience in the field of secondary education. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Daryn is actively engaged in supervising students pursuing their Master of Arts in Education (MA Education) and Doctor of Education (EdD) degrees, guiding them through their academic and research endeavors.

Dr Daryn Egan-Simon's research interests are centered around the integration of arts with history and citizenship education, aiming to craft intellectually stimulating, culturally enriching, and educationally transformative experiences for young learners. He has contributed to a project funded by the Arts Council Wales, which pioneered the teaching of working-class history through the creative arts in school. Furthermore, he played a key role in a collaborative effort between the University of Chester and the Grosvenor Museum. This interdisciplinary project sought to leverage historical artefacts as tools to expand cultural horizons and enhance creative writing skills among primary and secondary school students. Daryn's doctoral research explored the impact of using film as a pedagogical device and site for learning in Social Justice-orientated Citizenship Education.
