Deborah Johnson

I teach English for the PGCE Early Years-Primary course based at Warrington campus, as well as at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Riverside campus and I am the Cohort Lead for PGCE. 

I worked as Primary teacher for 20 years in Cheshire and Wirral after gaining a BEd (Hons) in English and Education from the University of Liverpool at Chester College. As an English specialist and subject leader, I was fortunate to be invited to be part of the Cheshire Leading Teacher team. Through further specialist training in Early Literacy, Language and Communication, I was then seconded to Cheshire as an Early Literacy and Language Consultant. 

I am deeply passionate about empowering children through language and literacy development to give them the best possible life chances from their very different starting points. I see the understanding of this, and sharing the passion for early literacy, as key to my role, and in the training of our teachers of the future.
