Julie Holmwood is a senior lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Chester. She is a member of the tutor team for the Primary Education and Early Years - Primary Education BA (Hons) programmes.

Julie’s career in education includes fifteen years as a primary school teacher. Her experiences range from teaching in a two-classroom village school in Shropshire to working in Germany for Service Children's Education. She also has extensive experience as an Education Improvement Adviser, providing support to schools and teachers for English and literacy, end of key stage assessment and, earlier in her career, for ICT. Since 2020, she has taught English and professional studies modules to undergraduate initial teacher education students at University Centre Shrewsbury.

Julie’s research interests include reading for pleasure and the social justice agenda; learning to read and the reading brain; children’s literature; and the multimodality of picturebooks and how readers make meaning from them.
