Dr Evelyn Jamieson
Associate Professor, Programme Leader for MA Dance and MA Drama
Evelyn is Programme Leader for MA Dance and MA Drama. Her experience as a professional performer, artist, and academic in higher education over a number of years is evidenced in her teaching including a range of practical, analytical, and contextual modules across postgraduate and undergraduate courses in the Music, Media and Performance Department.
Having performed and worked with leading choreographers, directors and composers such as Wayne McGregor and Leigh Landy and companies such as Scottish Dance Theatre and Dundee Rep Theatre her professional practice centres on teaching and learning in higher education and research informed teaching. This is supported with experience as an advisor to the Higher Education Academy and range of advisory roles for External University Institutional Reviews, Degree Validations, External Examining duties, and equally in the professional arts sector as a Board Member of National Dance Agencies, Dance and Theatre Companies/ Organisations.
Evelyn teaches on performance and creative practices, devising and choreography, physical theatre, collaborative arts practice, teaching, educational theatre and applied drama and dance practices, site-specific performance, performance histories and critical frameworks, practice as research, and research methods.
Evelyn has also worked at University College Bretton Hall and LIPA (The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) where she was Subject Leader, Head of Dance and Programme Leader for BA and MA programmes on dance, community drama and performing arts.
Evelyn’s research informed teaching focuses on collaborative and creative practice. Selected research projects include: dance and music devising; collaborative connections between higher dance education, the professional dance sector and dance agencies in the UK; collective creative collaboration in dance and theatre; improvisation and performance; site-specific practice: The body in site; collaborative arts practice in higher education.
