Dr Wayne Campbell

Lecturing in Criminology, Dr Wayne Campbell takes considerable pride in the product they deliver and the level of support they supply to the students they (in-)directly come into contact with. The quantity and quality of the teaching, learning and pastoral support they provide within their role does not deviate depending on the student. Whereby Dr Wayne Campbell treats all individuals - students and staff alike - with respect for the dignity of the person. Whether working independently or as part of a cohesive team, they are always participating in the proactive professional development and evaluation of theirs and their teams practices. Working with colleagues to support a strong academic programme identity, grounded upon listening and responding to ongoing student feedback. Advocating for the experience of students to be one which they feel supported, valued and provided with the capabilities to become and remain career ready, is as to why Dr Wayne Campbell also serves as Division Engagement Officer within the School for Humanities and Social Sciences. Seeking to promote consistency among colleagues in efforts to solidify an ethos of supporting the academic and wellbeing needs of our student cohorts: enhancing engagement and improving academic attainment.

As an advocate of promoting how theoretical disciplines transcend beyond the confines of the traditional classroom environment, Dr Wayne Campbell readily encourages those they teach to critically reflect on the theoretical constructs they and those around them apply in their daily lives. The purpose of such an approach is to enable students to reflect upon and share their personal lived experiences, as well as listen to and reflect upon those of their fellow cohort. As they contemplate and come to an understanding of how theory is embedded throughout all aspects of their everyday existence. In doing so, Dr Wayne Campbell strives to mobilise students to examine the world through the perspectives of all who inhabit and to not see themselves in society or theories in isolation from one another. Whereby students learn to appreciate the thought-processes, behaviours and actions they make are not linear, nor are they of those around them. With the aspiration to promote a student's consideration of why and how to remedy the problems encountering us, namely (re-)offending among others.

Maintaining an intellectual as well as general curiosity in the multiplicity of contemporary advancements within Criminology and inter-disciplinary research is a keen interest of Dr Wayne Campbell. Given the niche aspects of disciplines by which their teaching focuses upon, not least the importance they denote to ensuring representation of voices transcending beyond those more readily familiar within academia. Dr Wayne Campbell ensures to promote the diverse spectrum of scholars within academia, so as to avoid confining the developments to their knowledge and understanding among a limited scope of theoretical and conceptual viewpoints. In doing so, the research informed teaching they deliver to students is void of a one-way dissemination of theoretical perspectives from the past. Alternatively seeking to champion and dispense a wide-range of purposeful considerations from academics with lived experiences from practice, utilising original methodologies upon contemporary issues which impact all within society.
