Mooting at Chester

student in court presenting

At Chester, you will get the fantastic opportunity to engage in the practice of Mooting which will help you achieve your goals in your university studies and beyond.

What is Mooting?

Mooting is the oral presentation of a legal issue against an opposing counsel and takes place before a judge in a court room setting. Regular practice within our mock court room will prepares you for what you would experience in real-life settings and will give you the opportunity to put your learning into action.

How does it benefit me as a student?

Mooting helps you to develop advocacy skills and build presentation-skill confidence, and our mooting facilities are bespoke. Whilst mooting, you will benefit from building strong links with local Barristers and Judges and will get the opportunity to moot in front of real-world practitioners and network with professionals from across legal practice.

Previous students, through their pursuits in the practice of mooting, have been given the opportunity to present in London Supreme Court before Lord Justice Burrows, as well as in front of Judges from our local Crown Court. Read more about our students’ visit to the London Supreme Court.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved outside of your studies by volunteering when you get here and compete in local and national competitions.
