Mike Blakeley
Senior Lecturer in Policing
Mike joined the University of Chester in 2015 after a thirty year career in the police service, retiring at the rank of Detective Inspector.
Mike’s career has seen him work across the socially and geographically diverse communities of London, Yorkshire and Merseyside. The majority of his police service has been spent in criminal investigation with the predominant focus being in homicide investigations and counter terrorism intelligence operations and as the head of the investigative training faculty.
Academically, Mike has acquired a number of strategic management qualifications in his own time, culminating in the award of MBA and his teaching qualification, PGCE. Mike has teaching responsibility for the modules, SO4628 Investigative Interviewing, SO6616 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Organised Crime.
I am the Module Leader for the following modules:

- IP6619 Strategic Management and Leadership
- IP7302 Leading and Managing Multi-Agency Partnerships
- IP7306 Counter Terrorism and Serious and Complex Crime
I also act as the Research Supervision co-ordinator for Level 6 and Level 7 Research Methods modules.
I am a second year doctoral student. My research is reviewing the appropriateness of transformational leadership to the front line operational police supervisor in contemporary society.
