Andrew is a Senior Lecturer in Anatomy at Chester Medical School with over 15 years of experience in teaching in Higher Education, delivering as a lecturer in anatomy at several established Higher Education Institutions. His research on musculoskeletal biology has been published in peer reviewed journals and presented internationally.

With a 1st class BSc in Anatomy and Human Biology (Hons) and a distinction in Master of Research (MRes), Andrew went on the complete a PhD in integrative mammalian biology in 2013 and has developed and delivered teaching and assessment in anatomy and across a variety of medical and healthcare-related programmes. He arrived at Chester following positions at the University of Liverpool, Bader International Study Centre, Queens University Canada and St George’s, University of London. His research ranges from the molecular biology of muscle atrophy through to clinically applied musculoskeletal anatomy of the foot and ankle joint.

Andrew’s extensive teaching experiences have involved a range of methods including practical delivery through cadaveric dissection and prosections, anatomical models, radiological and live imaging, and 3D interactive software, supported through large group lectures, seminars and small group tutorials.  He has experience of curriculum development and delivery at both under and postgraduate level, as well as to clinical professionals as part of continued professional development training.

Andrew’s research interests are centred around the field of musculoskeletal biology.  This has ranged from the molecular biology of muscle atrophy to  functional and clinical musculoskeletal biomechanics, which involved a collaboration in clinical and surgical anatomy research with a team from Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Research outputs have national and international reach in the form of peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.  Andrew’s work contributed to the recent discovery of a novel ligament of the foot, implicated in surgical approaches to Pes Planus (flat foot), which has impact on patient outcomes in real terms.
