Gareth is a Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences at Chester Medical School.  His expertise is in human anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, research methods and biostatistics. 

Following an undergraduate degree in Sports Science, Gareth studied an MSc in Exercise and Nutrition Science, and then gained a PhD in applied exercise physiology from the University of Liverpool focusing on the effects of sports massage as a method of post exercise recovery. 

Gareth first joined the University of Chester in 1998 as a Technician/Demonstrator.  He joined Chester Medical School in August 2021 as a Lecturer.

 

Gareth has experience in teaching on undergraduate physiology, exercise physiology and statistics programmes and postgraduate exercise physiology and biostatistics.

Areas of teaching are physiology and biostatistics.

Gareth’s research interests are physiological/psychological stress and heart rate variability, and the beneficial effects of touch/massage.

Previous research has included monitoring and preparing athletes for endurance events; and a long-term project at the Manchester Fire Brigade Training Centre investigating the effects extreme heat stress on fire fighters.
