Dr Robert Davies

Senior Lecturer
Chester Medical School
Dr Robert Davies

Robert joined Chester Medical School in 2022 and teaches on the BSc Health and Exercise Science and the MSc Exercise Medicine programmes at University Centre Shrewsbury. His specialisms include human physiology, skeletal muscle physiology and clinical exercise physiology.

Robert has been involved in health and exercise science since 2009, having completed undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, postdoctoral research and teaching in the UK and Ireland. He has also worked as principal and co-investigator on several successful project grants investigating the impact of nutrition and exercise on muscle metabolism and muscle function. Robert joined Chester Medical School in 2022 as a lecturer in health and exercise medicine.

Current teaching includes:

  • Physiology & Human Movement in Chronic Diseases (Level 5)
  • Causes & Aetiology of Key Chronic Diseases (Level 5)
  • Measurement, Evaluation & Research in Human Health (Level 5)
  • Comparative Exercise Physiology in Health & Human Performance (Level 7)
  • Research & Analysis in Physical Activity & Exercise (Level 7)
  • Comparative Nutrition, Pharmaceuticals & Ergogenic Aids (Level 7)

Robert also supervises several undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects.

Robert’s research is principally focused on the regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism and muscle function by nutrition and exercise. He also has a keen interest on the role that nutrition and exercise have on physical performance, healthy ageing and metabolic health.
