Professor; Programme Leader for Neurodevelopmental Conditions PGCertSteve joined the Medical School faculty after 15 years delivering post graduate education to medical doctors and allied health care professionals at another North West University.

His research focuses on suicide, deliberate self-harm and dementia.

Steve is responsible for leading on the MSc Psychiatry for international medical doctors within local NHS Trusts. UK mental health professionals can also undertake this programme. Steve is an experienced clinician and educator with particular interests in, mental health, substance misuse, self-harm, cognitive disorders including dementia. He has worked with challenging behaviors and complex high risk patient’s throughout his psychiatry career. Both his Masters and PhD are psychology based. He is a former member of the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIHME/CSIP) Suicide and Self-harm Working Group, NHS SDO Research Community and Member of NETSCC College of Experts, National Research Grants Committee (GRAM) member for The Brain Tumour Charity, NIHR grant reviewer and COVID-19 SAGE Outbreak Expert Database for Mental Health.
He is a specialist peer reviewer for the International Journal of Psychology and Psychoanalysis and Psychiatry Research Journal. He is also an active member for the national sick children’s charity ‘ Well Child’ . He has been project leader for international education and mental health research projects. Steve has been a consultant educator and clinician on many NHS Trust projects. Steve is an editorial board member for the Journal of mental health nursing.
