Dr Deborah Haydock
Visiting Lecturer
I am an experienced academic, Nurse and Health Visitor who has over 33 years of clinical experience, having worked in acute and community settings. Public health is a particular interest of mine, particularly, social inequalities, primary socialisation and the significance of early interventions. I have for many years been involved in professional education both in practice and in the university setting. Within the department I support and lead the core business of the department including professional development, various curriculum developments and delivery of programmes. I actively participate in the strategic planning and research activity of the department including collaboration with Trusts and HEE and internal and external bid submissions.
I have taught and acted as module leader across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing, Health Visiting/ Public Health and Community programmes. I have also contributed to modules on prescribing and commissioning within health and social care. I have acted as Programme Leader for Professional education programmes at postgraduate level.
I have previously developed and led bespoke CPD modules and workshops locally and nationally.
I am a supervisor for MSc dissertation students and Doctoral students undertaking PhD and Professional Doctorate programmes.
I have previously held External Examiner posts.
My research experience is in qualitative research approaches, with a particular focus on my professional background of Health Visiting, centred on SCPHN Practice Teachers, their perceptions of role satisfaction and the link to professional burnout. My research findings have been presented at the Community Practitioner national conference and the NET conference Cambridge.
My doctoral thesis was concerned with SCPHN-HV practice teachers, mentors and SCPHN students’ experiences of practice placements through the lens of Pierre Bourdieu.
I have also been involved with funded research projects with Health Education England.
