Dr Manisha Sharma

Dr Manisha Sharma (RNutr) is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society at the University of Chester, UK. Dr Sharma is an experienced researcher and lecturer in nutrition, public health and research methods using both quantitative and qualitative methods. She has extensive experience as an educator in the UK and India.

She is a member of the Association for Nutrition (AfN) (2012 to Present) and the Nutrition Society (2015 to Present) as a Registered Nutritionist. She has conducted face-to-face/online workshops and delivered guest lectures on public health, nutrition, and lifestyle at different higher education institutions in India on multiple occasions. Dr Sharma has also worked as a health professional (Nutritionist) at Cheshire and Wirral NHS Trust, where she delivered Diabetes awareness and Cook Well for Diabetes sessions to varied populations. This supplemented her role as an Education Champion at Diabetes UK.

TEACHING INTERESTS

As a senior lecturer in Public Health and well-being at the University of Chester, she has been teaching a range of modules, including Research in Community Practice (L7), Applied Sciences (Adult Nursing) (L5), Extended Project (Innovation and Research) (L6) and Public Health MSc Dissertation modules (L7).
She is a module leader for PH 7018 (L7) Communicable Disease in Public Health. She also supervises professional doctoral research theses (L8) in Health and Social Care and MSc dissertation (L7) projects in Public Health and Wellbeing.
Previously, she has delivered lectures for BSc (Nutrition Science) and MSc Public Health Nutrition (PHN) courses. This included teaching Health behaviour, Metabolism and Disease, and Contemporary Issues in Human Nutrition.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr Sharma’s research interest and community work have focussed on the nutrition and health of South Asians and other diverse communities. She has a special interest in the field of diabetes prevention, weight management, and gestational diabetes. Her current research interests focus on the dietary and lifestyle choices of Indian immigrants in the UK and beyond. She is an experienced qualitative researcher with publications in well-acclaimed international journals.
