I am a learning disability nurse and senior lecturer who has been privileged to witness one of the biggest changes within a nursing field. As a student nurse I was delivering care within large segregated services, and was part of the national workforce that led to individual person centred services that helped to shape the provision of services we see today.

I have worked within medium secure settings with both adolescents and adults, small individual services for people with complex health needs, community learning disability teams and CAHMS (LD) services.

I have an array of experience within leadership and management both within the NHS and Higher Education.

My current teaching is focused on the Specialist Practitioner Qualification (community learning disability nursing) and a supervisor for dissertation students studying for an MA in Art Therapy.

I also contribute to the BN Pre registration nursing, particularly learning disability nursing.

I am currently undertaking a research project, alongside a colleague in the faculty focusing upon cancer and learning disability.

My previous research has been in relation to why students choose learning disability nursing as a career, as well as focusing on attitudes and perceptions to disability from professionals within healthcare.
