Get into Nursing

Get into Nursing is a free five week, short course for learners who either don’t have the formal qualifications required for a typical degree or want to develop their confidence to study at university. On this part-time course, you’ll learn about university resources and support, techniques for independent study and academic writing, and build personal wellbeing and resilience.

"This is a really exciting opportunity for an individual to consider a higher education course and gives a taster of what study is like at university. It’s also great if you need your confidence building and if you are successful, it allows you to progress into a Nursing course."

Teaching and assessment

The course has 30 hours of taught material over four weeks and an optional fifth week, for a one-to-one tutorial. This will be a blend of in-person learning at University Centre Warrington, and online learning via the University’s virtual learning environment.

The assessment is the completion of a learning portfolio, which is made up of weekly, tutor-assigned tasks that are linked to the learning outcomes of the course.

There will also be a final, short written task that will be assessed using the Level 3 assessment criteria (equivalent to A Level).

What does the course lead to?

Once you have completed the course you can make a choice about how you would like to progress, either through our direct entry route to university or through our apprenticeship route. This does not affect the course application process or the content for the course; your learning will be the same.

Get into Nursing: Direct Entry

Upon successful completion of this course, if you do not have the formal qualifications required for a typical degree, you can go on to study a Foundation Degree Science (FdSc) as a Nursing Associate at University Centre Warrington.

Upon successful completion of this course, if you do have the formal qualifications required for a typical degree (either with or without a Foundation Year), and are using this course as an opportunity to build your confidence before applying, you can go on to apply (dependent on meeting the entry requirements of the degree) for any of our Nursing or Midwifery courses, or you can move straight onto the FdSc Nursing Associate (Direct Entry) at University Centre Warrington.

Get into Nursing: Apprenticeship Ready

Upon successful completion of this course, if you do not have the formal qualifications required for a typical degree, but have an employer who is ready to support you to undertake an apprenticeship, you can go on to study a Foundation degree Science (FdSc) Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship at University Centre Warrington.

If you have attended this course as an opportunity to build your confidence to apply for a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship, upon successful completion, if you have both the formal qualifications required for a typical Foundation Degree or degree and an employer ready to support you through an apprenticeship, you can go on to apply for the Registered Nurse (Degree Apprenticeship) BN or the Foundation degree Science (FdSc) Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship.
