Get into Nursing
What will I learn?
On this course, you will be supported by a dynamic and experienced academic team who will cover vital study skills such as:

- Recognising and building on transferable skills acquired from previous education, employment and lived experiences

Teaching and assessment
The course has 30 hours of taught material over four weeks and an optional fifth week, for a one-to-one tutorial. This will be a blend of in-person learning at University Centre Warrington, University Centre Birkenhead, or Chester (Wheeler), and online learning via the University’s virtual learning environment.
The assessment is the completion of a learning portfolio, which is made up of weekly, tutor-assigned tasks that are linked to the learning outcomes of the course.
There will also be a final, short written task that will be assessed using the Level 3 assessment criteria (equivalent to A Level).
The University is currently collating bookings for the course to be delivered at either the Chester, Birkenhead, or Warrington campus to best suit course participants. We aim to start this short course on a date selected by participants and would kindly like to ask that participants write their two options for a preferred date in the Personal Statement section within their online application please. The course has often started on either Tuesday or Thursday.
Entry Requirements and How to Apply
Get into Nursing aims to attract individuals who may not have normally considered higher education due to a lack of confidence or the right qualifications. All prospective learners would need a reasonable level of English and entitlement to study in the UK to apply for the Get Into Nursing course.
The University of Chester would kindly like to ask all prospective learners to write the location name for their preferred university campus in their online application (preferably in the Personal Statement section)as a drop-down option for ‘site name’ for Birkenhead campus CH41 5AL and/or Warrington campus WA1 2NT is currently not available. The Get into Nursing short course will be delivered at either Chester, Birkenhead, or Warrington campus to best suit the course attendees.

What does the course lead to?
Once you have completed the course you can make a choice about how you would like to progress, either through our direct entry route to university or through our apprenticeship route. This does not affect the course application process or the content for the course; your learning will be the same.
Get into Nursing: Direct Entry
Upon successful completion of this course, if you do have the formal qualifications required for a typical degree, and are using this course as an opportunity to build your confidence before applying, you can go on to apply (dependent on meeting the entry requirements of the degree) for any of our Nursing or Midwifery courses If you have attended this course because you have an interest in a nursing career and to apply for a Degree Apprenticeship, upon successful completion, if you have the formal qualification required for a typical degree and an employer ready to support you through an apprenticeship, you can go on to apply for the Registered Nurse (Degree Apprenticeship) BN
