Andrew is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Society at the University of Chester. He is associated with the Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care and Public Health. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an approved PhD Supervisor. Andrew is currently supervising five doctoral students and has supervised three PhD students to successful completion. He has expertise in psychology and mental health research. Andrew has worked on grants from the Department of Education and Costello Medical.

- Academic lead for a partnership with Catalyst.org.uk Discovery Centre and Mindlab programme for Mental Health and Wellbeing.
- Chair for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Research Association.
- Academic lead for international mental health and wellbeing collaboration among healthcare workers.
- Associate editor for an international journal for Frontiers in Psychology and guest editor for research topics on mental health and wellbeing
- Editor for a book proposal involving external collaborators and academic colleagues.
- Invited welcome address speaker and has presented papers at national and international conferences.

Dr Mitchell’s research focuses on mental health and well-being in students and healthcare workers. His international interest is in the mental health and well-being of healthcare workers. At the national level, his research focuses on equality, diversity and inclusiveness in research and research ethics.
His funded projects are:

- Strategic Priorities Funding (2020/2021). Mental health and well-being impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on trainee nurses. Awarded £2180.00
- QR Funding (2019/2020). Using electromagnetic technology to monitor and identify mental health states. Awarded £3232.00
- QR Funding (2018/2019). Mindfulness and well-being in student nurses during a three-year training programme for professional registration. Awarded £3945.00
