Debbie Wyatt
Senior LecturerI qualified as a Registered Nurse at Hammersmith Hospital in 1983 and following a variety of nursing posts moved into nurse education in 1987.
I joined the University of Chester in 1992 and since 1997, have worked as Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at the University of Chester and as Macmillan Lecturer/Head of Clinical Education at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
During my career I have been involved in a range of pre-registration, post registration and post graduate programmes. I have taught a range of nursing and health related subjects such as adult nursing and applied sciences but my main areas of interest and expertise relate to cancer care and education, and communication skills. I became an accredited facilitator for the National Cancer Action Team’s Connected programme in 2009 and continue to facilitate Advanced Communication Skills Training.
My recent role as Faculty Credit Co-ordinator involves promoting flexible learning through credit transfer. I advise students on opportunities for Accreditation of Prior Learning (Certificated and Experiential) and support them to develop successful APL claims at levels 4, 5, 6 and 7.
I am Programme Leader for the PG Cert in Oncology for Health and Social Care Practitioners and for the PG Cert in Cancer Care but also contribute to other programmes such as the BSc (Hons) Professional Practice and Bachelor of Nursing with Honours.
I am Module Leader for a range of level 6 and 7 modules in oncology and palliative care, Independent Studies and Work Based Learning and also supervise students undertaking level 7 dissertations.
My main research interests include cancer care and cancer education.
I have co-edited a book, Cancer and Cancer Care, with Dr Nick Hulbert-Williams which was published by Sage Publications Ltd in April 2015.
I am the Link Tutor for the University of Chester partnership with the End of Life Care Partnership and am the academic link for the Practice Development and Research Partnership (PDRP) between The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and the Faculty of Health and Social Care.
