Eve Collins

As an adult nurse, I spent the early part of my career working in critical care before moving into Higher Education in 2000. My research and writing interests are best described as eclectic and I developed a special interest in the physical health of individuals with mental health problems following my involvement in delivering educational curricular in this area.

My role as head of dept. is to develop and enhance interprofessionalism across the faculty and extending our provision to a broader range of healthcare professionals.

I teach on the following modules:

  • NM5202 Research, Teaching and Leadership for Professional Practice
  • NM6136 Physical Health Needs of People with a Learning Disability
  • NM4046 Study Skills, Accountability & Working in a Professional Environment

I recently led two technology enhanced learning projects which drew of the expertise of healthcare professionals, educators and service users to devise accessible educational resources for healthcare professionals. The first takes the form of a mobile app and simulates the experience of hearing voices as a means of enhancing professionals understanding of this complex phenomenon. The second mobile app focuses on End of Life Care for people with dementia and uses storytelling to educate formal and informal carers about the means of enabling people with dementia to live and die well. Evaluation studies are currently in progress.

My previous research has looked into Pre-Registration student nurses perceptions and experiences of reflective practice, the patient's experience of discharge from HDU, and patient empowerment – Its meaning and practical application for nursing.
