Deputy Head, Nursing and Healthcare Education

I started my nursing career within the acute sector, working on a Surgical Assessment Unit and Intensive Care Unit. I then worked within the community setting for four years. During this time I completed the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) qualification and worked as a Health Visitor in Wirral.

I completed my master’s degree whilst working as a Health Visitor and developed a passion for teaching and learning, which I wanted to pursue further. This led me to gaining a post as a Lecturer at Edge Hill University, teaching pre-registration nursing, where I worked for two years prior to moving to the University of Chester, where I am the Programme Lead for pre-registration nursing at Marriss House.

I currently contribute to pre-registration nursing at Wirral on a range of modules.

I am also the module lead for Non-Medical Prescribing programme (V300) at Marriss House.

I am also an External Examiner for the SCPHN programme at Northampton University.

I have a keen interest in postnatal depression and have undertaken research into the impact that this has on fathers, and the support they receive. I am currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Public Health and I am pursuing this interest further within my studies, focussing on the support fathers receive from the Health Visiting service.

I have also recently undertaken a piece of research as part of my PGCTHE, that explored student nurses’ perceptions of bursary and non-bursary degree nurse education and the impact upon student experience.
