Learning Disability Nursing BN (Hons)

"The University offers endless opportunities to help students like me achieve my ambition of becoming a Learning Disability Nurse."

I was inspired to become a nurse from a young age, as I grew up with a mother who is a nurse. After leaving college I was working as a Teaching Assistant in a special needs primary school, supporting children with a range of disabilities. Whilst working there I instantly realised that working with those who have a learning disability was something I wanted to do, and this is when I applied to study the Learning Disability Nursing degree at the University of Chester.

I really enjoy studying at Riverside Campus as it is situated in a beautiful location and the campus has an amazing support system from both staff members and students. During my studies I have had many opportunities to work in a variety of different settings which has helped me understand which aspects of learning disability nursing I would like to continue to work in when I qualify. The University offers endless opportunities to help students like me achieve my ambition of becoming a Learning Disability Nurse. For example, travelling abroad to work alongside professionals to see how the healthcare systems work in developing countries. I enjoy working alongside different professionals, service users and families whilst studying as well as attending many conferences, courses and training sessions offered by the University. My aspirations for the future are to successfully graduate as Learning Disability Nurse and to work with children who have complex needs.
