Learning Disability Nursing BN (Hons)

Katie Nellist

"I enjoy meeting new people whilst on placement and learning about them and their needs. I enjoy learning new skills in university and being able to apply these skills in practice."

The reason why I wanted to become a Learning Disability Nurse is because I wanted to make a difference on how people with learning disabilities are treated in hospitals. I have experiences from when my uncle who has a learning disability was admitted to hospital and he was not spoken to due to the doctors/nurses not understanding the way he communicates.

The Riverside Campus is special because it always looks amazing in every season and the lecturers are all really helpful too! I enjoy studying in Chester because the city is beautiful with amazing views and the historical background behind the city.

I enjoy meeting new people whilst on placement and learning about them and their needs. I enjoy learning new skills in university and being able to apply these skills in practice.

My aspirations for the future are to make a difference to the way people treat, approach and care for people who have learning disabilities.
