Louise Parker
PhD StudentLouise is a PhD student in the School of Psychology. She completed a Psychology Master’s degree at the University of Chester in 2019. Louise is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society, and a student member of the European Association of Psychology & Law and the International Investigative Interviewing Research Group. Louise is also a member of the Forensic and Investigative Psychology Research Group at the University of Chester.
Louise’s PhD is an investigation of the Police Caution in suspect police interviews in England and Wales. Louise is primarily exploring how the caution is explained by Interviewing Officers and third parties, including the Appropriate Adult.
Louise is a tutor for Research Methods and Skills (PS4005), Core Topics in Psychology (PS4010), and Work Based Learning (WBL5101). Louise also facilitates with the Level 6 Psychology Seminar Series (PSZIN6). Louise is involved with marking on the Research Methods and Skills (PS4005), Core Topics in Psychology (PS4010) and Applications of Psychology in Education (PS4016).
Louise’s PhD research analyses real-life police suspect interviews. The research explores if, and how Police Interviewing Officers explain the police caution to the vulnerable and non-vulnerable suspect. A coding framework designed by Louise is currently being used for the analyses. Interviewing officers’ and Appropriate Adults’ perceptions of the police caution have also been explored. The research is intended to have practical value for the police and legal services in England and Wales, and for the wider research community.
