Dr Robert Walford
Visiting LecturerMy name is Dr Robert Walford and I have been working for the University of Chester since 2013 as a Visiting Lecturer at Chester Business School.
Following in excess of ten years’ experience in the private sector working in hotels and manufacturing, in practical, supervisory and management roles and also employment in the Health Service in Administration and Management, I began a career in education where I was initially appointed a lecturer eventually progressing to Senor Lecturer, Principal Lecturer and eventually Head of a Hospitality Curriculum Department. This post was followed by the role of Head of Department for Business, Finance, Administration and Trade Union Studies.
A later role involved the management and development of a commercial Services Department, whose excellent work was recognised by the Queen in 2002 with a National Honours award, The Queen’s Anniversary Prize Awards for higher and Further Education. The work of the department involved working closely with industry developing and delivering academic programmes on a flexible basis throughout the year and as well as NVQ training provision, to companies and small businesses in the UK and in Europe.
I have worked on educational projects with UK companies including Roll-Royce, Bae Systems, Iceland Frozen Foods and Hanson Quarries, to name a few, as well as working with numerous Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs) over a number of years. In addition, participation in educational and industry related projects resulted in my involvement on projects in Finland, France, Italy, Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
As a visiting lecturer, I have been involved in teaching on several modules since 2013. I am currently involved in teaching Strategic Management and Business Operations subjects at the University’s Shrewsbury Centre at undergraduate level and Innovation Management, at post-graduate level, at Queen’s campus in Chester. I also supervise post-graduate students regarding their dissertation projects.
I am involved in on-going strategic research work in the Further Education College Sector in Wales on aligning International and National awards to the curriculum activities of college departments. My work involves scoping out awards, developing and writing appropriate awards for submission. To date, as well as achieving a high success rate in a variety of awards, I have also written three successful Queen’s Anniversary Prize Awards in higher and further education, at UK National honours level, awarded to educational institutions for outstanding work. Through these awards I have meet the Queen at Buckingham Place on three separate occasions.
