Paul Underhill

Paul, an experienced IT professional and seasoned lecturer in Data Science, joined the university in 2013. His career spans various roles in academia, research, IT, and leadership. Currently, he leads the Data Science programme, showcasing his diverse expertise and commitment to the field.

Paul is a dedicated lecturer in Data Science, with a rich background in Cyber Security and Computer Science. His journey in academia is reinforced by over 10 years of diverse IT experience, where he significantly contributed to managing IT projects and servers crucial for critical infrastructure and services. He holds a BSc in Computer Forensics and IT Security, an MSc in Cybersecurity, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His passion for continual learning is evident as he is currently pursuing a PhD, aiming to expand his expertise and research areas.

Beyond the areas of technology and education, he enjoys a variety of interests. As an avid cinemagoer, an enthusiast of snowboarding, a keen traveller, and immersing himself in the world of gaming.

Paul’s goal is to drive forward the research in Data Science at the University of Chester, by leveraging his extensive experience and academic background. He is committed to shaping the future of this dynamic field and inspiring the next generation of data scientists.

Pauls area of interest is Data Science. He covers all aspects from statistical programming, current principles and machine learning. He has previously taught on a wealth of programmes for the Computer Science department both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Cyber Security, Software Engineering and Computer Science. 

Paul is also a part of the STEM Outreach Programme that offers school students the opportunity to see what ‘real’ engineers and scientists do, through practical applications and problem-solving activities.
