Dr Yubin Yan

Dr. Yubin Yan is an Associate Professor of Mathematics within the Faculty of Science, Business, and Enterprise at the University of Chester, UK. He currently serves as the Programme Leader for the BSc Mathematics since 2019, having previously held the role of Programme Leader for the MSc Mathematics from 2012 to 2019.

With a strong commitment to academic mentorship, Dr. Yan has effectively supervised the completion of 5 PhD theses and 30 MSc dissertations in the fields of Applied Mathematics and Computational Mathematics at the University of Chester. His dedication to teaching excellence was recognized when he was awarded the title of Most Inspiring Lecturer by the University of Chester in 2016.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Yan contributes significantly to the academic community through his editorial roles. He currently serves as an Editor for the prestigious international Journal of "Numerical Applied Mathematics" and sits on the Editorial Boards of three other esteemed international journals. Dr. Yan's influence extends further as he has served as Lead Guest Editor for special issues of journals such as "Mathematics" (2021) and "Discrete Dynamics in Nature and Society" (2017).

Additionally, he was the co-organizers for minisymposiums at conferences including the "27th and 29th Biennial Numerical Analysis Conference" held at the University of Strathclyde (2019, 2021).

Dr. Yubin Yan brings over two decades of teaching experience in mathematics to both undergraduate and graduate students at UK universities.

His expertise spans a wide array of modules, including but not limited to analysis, linear algebra, geometry, stochastic calculus, numerical analysis, numerical methods for differential equations, complex analysis, functional analysis, partial differential equations, fractional calculus and fractional differential equation, group theory, stochastic calculus, stochastic differential equation and the foundation of mathematics.

Yubin’s research interests are concerned with numerical methods for nonlinear partial differential equations (both in deterministic and stochastic), numerical methods for  fractional partial differential equations,  the finite element method, stability analysis and controllability for semilinear parabolic  systems, and the Navier-Stokes equation. 

Yubin is currently joint supervisor on several PhD projects. Successful past Phd supervision includes:
