"Reading up on the latest features for any software you plan to use and then try to learn how to use those features is always a great start."
How did your degree at the University of Chester prepare you for your current role?
The course covered almost every aspect of development that I have since encountered within a professional studio. Even the modules not directly related to programming have helped me.
Due to my current role being focused upon development within Unity, the modules related to the engine were extremely helpful. Within a month of joining I was working on porting Sheltered over to mobile devices, this meant that every bit of knowledge I had acquired whilst developing a mobile game for the course was invaluable.
What support did you receive during your degree?
My lecturers were always accommodating when I hit a brick wall or just generally wanted feedback on work. I always started assignments early and if I could I would also try to do workshop activities before the actual workshop - this meant that I could get feedback from the lecturer and improve my work.
What do you feel are the top transferable skills that you use in your role?
- Time management
- Teamwork
- Presentation skills
- Researching
- Managing my workload
