Dr Candice Owen
Senior Lecturer
Dr Candice Owen is a Senior Lecturer in Zoology in the Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise at the University of Chester, UK. In this role, she teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervises the research of postgraduate students and does her own research. Dr Owen has been teaching for eight years since the completion of a Postdoctoral Fellowship, has secured external funding and has published in academic press.
Dr Owen's teaching is primarily in the lower undergraduate levels and focuses primarily on animal anatomy and physiology, and the adaptations thereof. She also teaches modules that encompass broad research philosophy and techniques, including statistical analysis. These modules include both theoretical and practical aspects. Dr Owen ties her research into her teaching as often as possible.
Dr Owen's research interests are centred around insect thermal physiology and how it can be used as a tool in applied settings such as the biological control of invasive species and integrated pest management. She is also interested in the methodologies used to determine insect thermal physiologies and how changes in these can influence the results obtained. Most of her research implicates life histories and physiology of insects under the umbrella of altered climates as a result of anthropogenic or forced, sudden distribution changes.
