Commonwealth Shared Scholarships available for international students on University course
Scholarship opportunities are available for international students looking to take on a Master’s degree at the University of Chester in a popular social justice and equality course.
The places are available following a successful Commonwealth Shared Scholarship bid for the MA Education, Society and Globalisation course - soon to be retitled MA Social Justice and Globalisation in Education.
Bidding is now open to applicants who wish to take on this course with scholarship backing, until the closing date of December 12, 2024.
Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are for candidates from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries, for full-time Master’s study in the UK on selected one-year courses, jointly supported by UK universities.
Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Shared Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required to support sustainable development and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.
Programme Leader Dr Paula Hamilton said: “I am delighted that the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship will offer individuals, such as teachers or community workers, the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in social justice and equality issues, to make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and marginalised people who face challenges and disadvantage.”
The full-time MA Education, Society and Globalisation (MA Social Justice and Globalisation in Education) course is long-established and has attracted international students for many years.
Drawing upon sociological, educational and philosophical perspectives, learners examine social inequalities and welfare issues that impact the life chances, well-being, and attainment of children, young people and marginalised groups, within a local, regional and international context.
Common topics studied include children's rights; social justice and community engagement; educational, professional and social challenges for girls and young women; child labour; child poverty; parenting; disability and mental wellbeing; and the globalisation of education.
Students are encouraged to base assessments around their own personal and professional experiences and important social issues relating to their own communities.
Tutors are all research and publication active in social justice, in particular in gender studies, LGBTQ+, cultural diversity and disability. Tutors are passionate about aspects of human diversity and drive students forward in to make positive social change.
