Digital Marketing- My First Year as a Mature Student
Alex tells us why she chose the Digital Marketing degree at Chester, talks about her experiences of the course and discusses how the degree will set her up to make a real difference in the world.
Hi, I’m Alex and I am currently about to complete my first year as a mature student at the University of Chester. What a journey it has been!
Before I get into how great the degree is, what they say is true, it’s never too late to undertake a university course and I can add that it’s totally worth it!
I chose to go back to education at the ripe age of 30 after attending an Open Day at Chester. I was utterly impressed with Jane and Beth, my current Marketing and Digital Marketing tutors. They explained how interactive the course would be and how it allows students to explore their creativity while simultaneously growing their theoretical knowledge.
After months of studying marketing, I can firmly say that, to me, marketing is an art that represents endless possibilities to communicate a message to a desired audience and can greatly influence their lives. Marketing is your chance to be remembered and make a difference! Digital marketing expands those possibilities across digital environments to learn how to leverage the pervasiveness of digital media and create meaningful communication experiences for the public.
I have learned so much, and the teachers have been absolutely amazing and supportive throughout the year. Not to mention the awesome field trip we had in Stratford-upon-Avon during this course. The trip was part of a very practical module that enabled us to witness the marketing approach of an actual organisation, Warwick Castle.
I have seen so many beautiful places over the span of a three day trip I took as part of my course. We went to the Tudor-esque Stratford which is still living and breathing Shakespeare’s influence on every street. We also experienced a ghost tour on the first night there, where we learned about the chilling legends of medieval and Victorian Stratford that were totally worth a listen!
On the second day we went to see the stunning Warwick Castle. The combination of heritage and entertainment is a total marketing win, and it was interesting to see how the marketing team managed it. I had a fabulous experience exploring the castle, its towers and lush indoor premises, as well as seeing their beautiful gardens with its resident majestic peacocks. My favourite part was the Falconer’s Quest show, truly breathtaking! After an immersive day of history and fun, we went back to our hostel and had a quiz night with our teachers, which was awesome and humorous.
The last day, on our way back to Chester, we stopped at the border with Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, in the Cotswolds to visit the lovely rural town of Broadway. The weather was really nice, and the blooming wisteria framing the Cotswold buildings gave a magical touch. We were given some time to wander around and visit the cute shops and museums. It was a great experience where we all got to know each other better and learn something new.
To wrap it up, studying at the University of Chester is a great opportunity to broaden your horizons and grow as a person, at any age. Be brave, book that Open Day and come have a look for yourself at the endless possibilities that the University of Chester has to offer to support your future and personal growth.
