Eight Reasons to study one of our Childhood and Education degrees
Our Childhood and Education degrees get you future-focused, connected to the vast landscape of Education and world-ready for whatever you decide to do after university.
We have put together eight reasons why you should study one of our Childhood and Education degrees so you can achieve your goals and broaden your horizons.
- Exciting practical experiences
Our Childhood and Education courses put your learning to the test with valuable work placement opportunities throughout your degree. This helps you relate theory to practice while you gain hands-on employability skills that are highly sought after. Previous students have gotten placements inside and outside of the classroom; teaching, business, and team-building training opportunities are just some of the avenues you could pursue. You have the option of either experiencing placements as part of our usual three-year course, or you could choose to have a full academic year in industry at the end of your second year.
- Jet-setting pathways
International opportunities are in abundance in our Education degrees, connecting you with new experiences as you travel and become a world-ready graduate through the degree. Our Experiential Overseas Learning module offers a unique opportunity to participate in a short-term placement around the world in our Education BA (Hons) (Single Honours) course. You could also study abroad for a full academic year at one of our bilateral exchange partners or through ISEP (International Student Exchange Programs), a network of over 300 additional higher education institutions worldwide. An additional opportunity to expand your horizons is the option to study the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course as part of your undergraduate or postgraduate degree. This is the most internationally recognised initial teacher training qualification to start or further your English language teaching career. Study the CELTA as part of your undergraduate work based learning module or experience it incorporated into our TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) MA.
- Tight-knit learning community
At the University of Chester, you will be immersed in a learning community that has your interests at its core. Smaller class sizes mean that we get to know you personally and we can develop your unique interests within the scope of our Childhood and Education courses.
- Preparing you for your future
Our courses help you broaden your horizons for you to discover non-traditional pathways into the career you want to pursue.
Matt Hall, Education student, “I knew I didn’t want to take the traditional route of becoming a teacher like a lot of other students on my course and I didn’t realise the career possibilities there are with an Education degree until I spoke with the University lecturers. I’m now in my last year and taking the next step into a career in PR and Marketing!”
Our courses teach you transferable skills for you to graduate a step ahead. This course builds your knowledge and understanding of political science, as well as sociology, philosophy, and psychology, to help you fully develop expertise in these areas, as well as education. Discover new ideas and learn skills that prepare you for becoming an Education professional or maybe even a professional in an industry you never would have thought about before.
- Academic learning, minus the exams
At the University of Chester, we assess your coursework, portfolios, essays, presentations, posters and digital outputs rather than exams. We believe in using educational methods that reflect how you would be evaluated in a real-world setting, compared to an exam format.
- Current trends and hot topics
Our course content stays relevant to current developments within the ever-changing education sphere. You will learn from experts in the field how to stay up-to-date and how to evolve with industry developments. The nature of our Childhood and Education courses equips you to be an adaptable and future-focused graduate.
- Forward-thinking staff
Our lecturers are research-active in a wide variety of educational topics and bring contemporary insight into the classroom that covers education in its broadest sense. We explore formal, informal, and non-formal ways of learning across all age groups; we support and understand both lifelong and life-wide study, realising the importance of experiential learning in tandem with delivered tuition.
- A qualification that can take you anywhere
