Life at Tudor Place Accommodation
Student Ambassador Hannah tells us more about living at our Tudor Place partnership accommodation.
When looking for places to live while studying in Chester, most people start with on-campus accommodation or move into student houses with friends. However, another option is partnership accommodation. The University of Chester is in partnership with a few options around Chester, including where I live, Tudor Place.
Tudor Place is run by Collegiate and situated on Liverpool road, 10 minutes walk from the University's Exton Park site and the city centre, as well as being within walking distance of the train and bus station. There are also many supermarkets close by to make undergoing weekly shopping easier. It has both studio flats and shared kitchen flats, with every room being an ensuite.
Tudor Place offers three levels of rooms, bronze, silver, and gold, each one offering more space than the other for an increase in weekly rent.
The accommodation offers the necessary amenities and extras, with an easy-to-use laundry and 24h onsite security providing safety. Access to an on-site gym, study space and social area is also included. Staff run monthly activities like a scavenger hunt on Valentine's Day, a pizza party to welcome people at the start of the year, Freebie Fridays, and even having therapy dogs visit the residents in the social space. Recently in the month of March, the staff team spent time planting seeds allowing residents to create their own herb gardens in pots within the accommodation. Creating a welcoming environment for new residents who may have never lived far from home. Offering support and generally just being smiley faces to see when visiting reception. The staff are also in close communication with the University being able to refer residents to the appropriate people and services on campus.
Tudor Place also conducts termly room and kitchen inspections to ensure that health and safety rules are followed and that nothing is wrong. If the staff do find a problem, they will offer services, like cleaning to get the living space clean and safe.
Due to not truly knowing what would happen with my university experience, it was somewhat of a scramble after Results Day to find accommodation with the places I was looking at being unavailable. Fortunately, the University referred me to a partnership where I could speak to lovely people on the phone who reassured me, helped me book my room, and explained the process helping to eliminate worries.
I am in a shared kitchen flat consisting of six people, all girls, due to both personal preference and religious reasons. Before moving in, we didn’t know each other, but Tudor Place provided a Facebook group to allow people to get to know the others they were living with. I am lucky enough to get on with my flatmates, with us decorating for Halloween and Christmas and sharing a meal before people left for the Christmas holidays and supporting each other through periods of university assignments and exams. The staff here will help flats if any problems arise, and maintenance are quick at responding to issues, so you definitely feel supported at this accommodation.
