Looking to Transfer from Another University?

What made you want to transfer to University Centre Shrewsbury?

My choice to transfer to University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) wasn't solely based around wanting to change my course, but after completing my first year at a bigger institution in the city, I felt I wasn't getting as much support and interaction during the course as I'd have liked. I was on a busy course with a lot of students, and I just felt a bit lost in the crowd.

How have you been supported moving into Year 2 of the BA Childhood Studies with Applied Psychology course?

Instantly, after my first interactions with the University regarding my transfer, I was immediately put in contact with the Programme Leader, Michelle Palser, and the module lecturers. I was able to engage with them and had the opportunity to discuss any questions or worries I had about the course content prior to the transfer. The change seemed really daunting but I was put at ease and felt the transfer process went very smoothly. The teaching staff made sure that I had access to lots of support materials, including all the Year 1 lecture materials and readings.

How is your experience with UCS different to the previous institution?

The most noticeable difference I have benefitted from since transferring to UCS has been the support and guidance given to me by the staff; this includes the Programme leader, lecturers, my Personal Academic Tutor and the Academic Support team. UCS has provided me with lots of support for both my studies and any personal worries too. Staff are very approachable and make sure that they really get to know you as an individual.

Would you recommend the course to others and why?

I would confidently recommend the BA Childhood Studies and Applied Psychology course to any individual who wants to work with children, young people or families. The Childhood Studies and bespoke Applied Psychology modules really develop your understanding and knowledge of children and childhood. Also, the course is centred on helping you plan your career from the outset. You get to meet a wide range of professionals and all the staff have a background in the sector. The modules help you to understand the many professional roles that are available, and these are particularly great for anyone who wants to work with children but hasn’t yet decided which career path they would like to take. A great benefit of the course is that it allows you to build a strong portfolio of work experience alongside your academic study.
