What Can You Expect From an Applicant Day?
If you have an offer to start studying at the University of Chester in September 2024, your next step will hopefully be to visit us on an Applicant Day - here's a glimpse of what's in store.
Applicant Days run on selected dates between February and May, and are an exclusive opportunity for offer holders to come and sample life at the University. Here’s what you can expect from your visit:
Subject Sessions
A chance to delve deeper into your subject and experience what it will be like to study within your academic department. Firstly, you’ll get to grips with the course itself – finding out details about module options, teaching and assessment methods, field trips and other opportunities on offer.
You’ll meet individual staff members, who will share their areas of expertise with you and will want to get to know about you and your interests. You can also meet current students already studying within your department, which is a great way of finding out about student life and get the answers to all those questions you thought you were afraid to ask!
Your subject session will be an opportunity to get a general feel for the department, view subject-specific facilities and maybe even have a go with some of the equipment available. It's also a great chance to meet other offer holders who will be studying alongside you come September.
View Accommodation
If you’re moving away from home, checking out accommodation options is likely to be a top priority. We’ll have a range of accommodation open throughout the day, to give you an idea of the different facilities and board types available. Staff from our Accommodation Team will be on hand in the Advice and Guidance area to answer any questions you have.
Advice and Guidance
The Advice and Guidance area is your opportunity to pick up information and chat to staff from a range of our support areas. From questions about student finance or your application, to part-time jobs or wellbeing support, our friendly staff will be on hand to help and advise.
Tour Facilities
You will be shown around the subject-specific facilities and learning areas within your department as part of your subject session. Make sure you also take a student-led campus tour and check out the library, Students’ Union, sports facilities and eateries.
Chat with Students
As well as being able to chat with students who are leading the campus tours, you’ll have lots of opportunities to chat with current students throughout the event. Take the opportunity to ask them anything you like - there’s no such thing as a stupid question! It’s a great opportunity to ask current students about the social life in the area and maybe even pick up some recommendations for a good place to head after the Applicant Day for dinner.
