Clearing - Frequently Asked Questions

Clearing is an official UCAS process that allows students to find and apply for university courses that still have available spaces. It's a key opportunity for anyone applying after the June 30th deadline, or for students who have changed their mind, received unexpected results, or didn't get an offer from their original choices.

You can apply through Clearing for several reasons:

  • You're a late applicant. If you're applying for a university course after June 30, you'll be automatically entered into Clearing.
  • You haven't applied yet. If you haven't applied to any universities, you can still apply through Clearing.
  • You changed your mind. Maybe you didn't receive any offers, or you decided not to accept the ones you got. Clearing lets you start fresh.
  • You didn't meet your offer's conditions. If your exam results weren't what you expected and you didn't meet the entry requirements for your original offers, Clearing is the path for you.

Applying through Clearing is a straightforward process. You'll need to follow a few simple steps:

  1. Find a course: Use our A-Z Clearing course listing to find a course that has places available and interests you.
  2. Contact us: Once you've chosen a course, give us a call with your results and UCAS number ready. Our friendly Clearing advisors will check if we can make you an offer.
  3. Accept your offer: If we offer you a place and you want to accept, log in to UCAS Hub and add the University of Chester as your "Clearing choice." Our UCAS institution code is C55.
  4. Wait for confirmation: We'll confirm your place through UCAS Hub. Your "Choices" page will be updated to show your new acceptance.

We have a number of courses with places available in a wide range of different subject areas. Check our course list for up-to-date information on courses with places available.

Yes, we guarantee accommodation for all our Clearing offer holders who apply for accommodation by Friday 22nd August 2025. Details on how to apply for accommodation will be emailed to you after you are offered a place.

Our Disability & Inclusion Team is here to help you get the support you need to succeed in your studies. Starting university can be a big change, and we encourage you to contact the team early to discuss any challenges and support options.
