" I find the city of Chester to be one of the best cities I have visited in the UK!"

I’m Thisanda Ayuka, a student from the pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, and I’m a second-year physics undergraduate studying at the University of Chester.

After I finished my A levels, I was passionate about studying Physics and beginning a research career in Physics. I chose to study in the UK for its strong reputation in academics and research. This reputation aligned with my need to study a theoretical advanced course like physics that had good practical components and integrated research components.

When deciding what UK University I should attend, I chose the University of Chester as the physics course looked very interesting to me. In addition, I chose the University of Chester for its location. I find the city of Chester to be one of the best cities I have visited in the UK. Apart from being a very safe city, Chester also offers a lot of things from awesome cafes, bars, and places to visit. Because Chester holds very significant historical importance, you are bound to find interesting monuments and places to see. My favourite places in the City Centre are the Cheese Shops!

As an international student, I think one of the best things about the University is the support you receive from lecturers, as well all other members of staff. Outside of my studies, I’m also a member of the STEM society where we do all kinds of fun stuff. This includes hosting social events and having lots of discussions about science.

Another opportunity I have gotten involved in since studying at the university is becoming a Student Race Advocate and supporting BAME students by looking into issues they face and to improving their student experience.

One of the best things about coming to the University of Chester is the chance to meet different people from different parts of the world and learn about different cultures.
