Entering the UK and Enrolling

Entering the UK

Do not enter the UK until after the start date of your Student visa. This is particularly relevant to non-visa nationals (e.g. US nationals, EU nationals) if you enter the UK before your Student visa start date you may have actually crossed the UK border under the Visitor Visa route. We may not be able to enrol you on that basis and so you may have to leave the UK and re-enter after your Student visa start date to “activate” it before you can enrol on your studies.

Enrolment

There are three steps to enrolment. You are not fully enrolled until you have completed all 3 steps.

  1. Complete the online enrolment via evlive. At least two weeks before your course start date you should receive your student username and password in a welcome email. If you have any log in difficulties please email lis.helpdesk@chester.ac.uk. If you are able to access the online enrolment but you have a question, please email ole@chester.ac.uk.
  2. Pay a total of £8,000 towards your tuition fees before you travel to the UK. Our finance department has full details on how to pay. Do not delay this payment. If you wait until you get to the UK it is likely that you will get stuck and will not be able to open a UK bank account in time will also face difficulties accessing your funds overseas. Please initiate the payment before you leave your home country. If you enter the UK but fail to enrol on time your studies will be terminated, your visa will be cancelled and you must leave the UK. Please speak to fees@chester.ac.uk to resolve any payment queries before you travel to the UK. You cannot pass this step until we have received the funds, proof of payment is not enough.
  3. Attend an international enrolment event with your passport and your eVisa share code. Before the enrolment event date you should also add your eVisa share code and your travel details to CAS Shield. You can generate a share code on the UK Government “View and Prove” website. Your share code should begin with the letter “S”. Then, you will need to bring your passport to an International Enrolment Event.

Enrolment Events

The Enrolment Event date and times will be posted here nearer the time.

When you attend the enrolment event you will need to bring with you;

  • Your passport. This must be the actual document, not a copy. Once you get to the UK do not post your passport to anyone else (e.g. the DVLA) until you have first shown it to the University of Chester to complete your enrolment.
  • A fresh share code for your eVisa
  • Proof of the date you arrived in the UK. This could be a UK border stamp in your passport, or your boarding pass, or your flight ticket

You are not fully enrolled until after you have completed all 3 steps of enrolment;  1)Completing the Online Enrolment form, 2)  we have received at least £8,000 in tuition fees, and 3) you have attended and in-person enrolment event and showed us your passport and eVisa share code.

Late arrivals

If your visa decision has been delayed and you will be arriving to the UK late please keep CAS shield up to date with your visa status and intended travel date, and keep checking your emails. After the enrolment date we will contact you with further instructions. If you don’t think you have been getting any emails from the University of Chester about your enrolment deadline or how to enrol, please email international@chester.ac.uk and ask if they can update your contact email address.
