Centre for Research into Environmental and Sustainable Transitions (CREST)
CREST, the Centre for Research into Environmental and Sustainable Transitions, is based at the University of Chester. We focus on researching environmental and social solutions for a sustainable future as we progress towards Net Zero.
From 2018-2023, CREST 1 was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in partnership with Reaseheath College and the University of Birmingham. During this period, CREST collaborated with academics to provide innovation and research development support to environmental science-based SMEs in the Marches. The project addressed productivity challenges in the region, transformed ideas into new products and services, and, created jobs.
In 2023 CREST 2 became a permanent research centre based at Queen’s Park at the University of Chester. Our aims as a research centre are:
- To align social and environmental goals ensuring that journeys to Net Zero are equitable in conversation with communities
- To evaluate policy discourses and stakeholder engagements across the net zero journey
- To deliver academic research skills that are required by government, businesses, and society to react to Climate Change
- To champion rural innovation and solutions in the face of Climate Change in the River Severn Basin and beyond.
