Services What we do
SMART Rural and Innovation
We specialise in driving innovation in rural areas, addressing their unique challenges while unlocking new opportunities. Collaborating with stakeholders through the quadruple helix approach, we help create shared visions, roadmaps, and actionable proposals. Drawing on our extensive case studies and established networks, we are equipped to support your initiatives and goals.
Life Cycle Analysis in the Agricultural setting
We support our stakeholders in monitoring the environmental impacts of their activities, ensuring compliance with sector commitments on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reductions. Using state-of-the-art tools and methodologies, we pinpoint key hotspots across the product value chain and provide guidance on areas for improvement. Our environmental impact monitoring includes:
- Collecting data on agricultural production performance and technologies to assess emission reductions in animal husbandry
- Conducting Life Cycle Analysis of various agricultural commodities.
- Evaluating the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of emission reduction tools, particularly in feeding techniques
- Assessing climate-positive farming practices
- Analysing how policy changes in the agricultural sector influence farming decisions
We offer comprehensive Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) using SimaPro software to evaluate the environmental impacts of your product, process, and services. If you provide the data, we can conduct the analysis in compliance with ISO 14040 standards. Below are the key stages of the Life Cycle Assessment process:
Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) Steps:
- Define Scope and Functional Units – Set the boundaries and determine the functional units for your product.
- Inventory Analysis – List all resources, energy consumption, and emissions (Life Cycle Inventory - LCI).
- Impact Assessment – Calculate environmental impacts and run sensitivity and completeness scenarios (Life Cycle Impact Assessment - LCIA).
- Interpretation and Reporting – Analyse the results and deliver a detailed report tailored to your industry needs."
Education, Skills and Environmental sustainability
Our team brings a diverse set of educational skills, with experience engaging learners from KS1 through to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. We specialise in designing and developing courses, as well as conducting thorough reviews to evaluate educational inputs and outcomes. Additionally, we offer support in building skills and competencies through our Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
Smart Climate Policy and Governance
Tackling the complexities of climate change requires a collaborative, multi-actor approach. The Water, Energy, Food, and Ecosystem (WEFE) components are interconnected, and integrated planning is essential to address both global and local challenges in meeting the needs of current and future societies. CREST focuses on developing model toolboxes to assess the impact of policy changes alongside technical and infrastructure measures. To strengthen institutions' roles in water diplomacy, we aim to unite River Severn Water Ecosystem stakeholders by facilitating creative participatory dialogues, fostering joint governance solutions for the WEFE nexus.
