Biography

Amanda Clarke is Deputy Head of Division (Nursing and Healthcare Education) at the University of Chester's Warrington campus. This forms part of the School of Nursing and Midwifery within the Faculty of Health Medicine and Society. Amanda has key areas of focus for Warrington which include supporting and deputising for the Head of Division, actively contributing to strategic and operational management. Amanda is an experienced nurse academic. She is a Registered Nurse (Adult), Registered Nurse Teacher and a Senior Fellow of Advance HE. Before commencing employment with the University in 2005 Amanda had the role of Senior Theatre Practitioner on Post-anaesthesia Care within an NHS foundation trust hospital.

Teaching and Supervision

Amanda is an experienced senior lecturer within the field of Adult nursing and Health and Social Care, with a focus on transprofessional research and innovation, and leadership. She is also an experienced masters' level supervisor, most recently successfully supporting students to complete their dissertation module on the MPH programme, and the assessment of students completing their MSc Advanced Clinical Practice dissertation.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Amanda's earlier research interests focussed on then numeracy skills of student nurses. This work informed curriculum development and the inclusion of formative strategies to develop the calculation ability of student nurse to ensure accurate drug administration on programme completion and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Since then Amanda has since explored decision-making in the assessment of student nurses' competence. Currently Amanda's research interest centres around the transition of nurse academics into higher education, their induction and performance development.
