Dr Andrew Mitchell
Associate Professor of Mental Health
Biography
Dr. Andrew Mitchell is an Associate Professor of Mental Health Research at the University of Chester, UK. He is a registered Mental Health Professional and a Chartered Psychologist. He co-chairs the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Research Association and speaks for inclusiveness in research and research ethics. He is an Associate Editor for a scientific peer-reviewed psychology journal and has served on research topics as a Guest Editor. He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Teaching and Supervision
As an active lecturer, Associate Professor Mitchell teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students about research methods, proposals for dissertations and theses, psychological treatments, and cognitive and behavioural treatments. He is an approved PhD Supervisor and is associated with the Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care and Public Health. Andrew currently supervises six doctoral students and has supervised three PhD students to completion.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Associate Professor Mitchell's research focuses on mental health, diversity, and inclusion in underrepresented groups. These are closely related, as individuals from diverse backgrounds can experience a lack of representation, unconscious bias, and other stressors that affect their mental health and psychological well-being. Andrew has published on students' and healthcare workers' mental health and well-being. He has presented conference papers on equality, diversity, and inclusiveness in research and is writing a book on this topic.
