Biography

Having held a range of management positions since 2019, most recently Acting Head of Computer and Engineering Sciences, from April 2024, Andrew will be taking time to focus on teaching, and continue his PhD studies in the field of Computing Education research. Andrew is the programme leader for BSc Computer Science and the postgraduate assessment officer. Andrew’s experience prior to teaching includes working as the lead developer for a software development company, specialising in web and mobile application development. Before that he worked in further education supporting students gaining IT qualifications. Andrew has also carried out contract IT work for the NHS.

Teaching and Supervision

Andrew's teaching focusses on computer programming at undergraduate level, with a particular emphasis on mobile development, teaching iOS Development and having previously taught Android Development. Currently the primary languages he teaches are Java, and Swift, however he has taught modules with Kotlin, Objective-C and C# in the past.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Andrew is currently undertaking a PhD in the domain of automating the provision of feedback on object-oriented code in student programming tasks.
