Biography

I commenced employment with the University of Chester in 2021 as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health & Social Care having previously been employed in the National Health Service as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Surgery. My nursing career began in 2000 when I commenced my adult nurse training. I then went on to Become a Critical Care Nurse and later a Critical Care Outreach/Night Nurse Practitioner. This role developed further as an Acute Care Nurse Specialist in an Orthopaedic Cold site before qualifying as an Advance Nurse Practitioner

Teaching and Supervision

My current role includes Module Leader on the Foundation Module, Practice Simulation Modules for Years 2 and 3 (Pre Reg Nursing) and theory module Person centered care 2. I am also deputy Programme leader for Adult BN student nurses.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Throughout my career I have mainly focussed on critically ill and deteriorating patients. I have been involved in Research on the Medical Emergency Team, TrachMan Study, NELA and Spotlight. Since joining the university I have been involved in a literature review looking at Simulated student placements and I have joined the Research pedagogy group looking at improving teaching for student nurses. Additionally, I plan on researching more into the needs of neurodiverse nursing students both for pedagogy and practice in the near future.
