Adeolu Olagunju

Biography
Anthony Olagunju has extensive qualitative and quantitative research expertise, particularly systematic review, and has published on public health perspectives of diabetes mellitus. He is a co-investigator on two community-focused projects including the Halton Lifestyle Survey and Multi-Agencies Rough Sleeping Project Service Evaluation commissioned by the Halton Borough Council and Cheshire West & Chester Council respectively. Anthony co-leads the Public Health Special Interest Group which is a platform for interdisciplinary research and collaboration between the University and Cheshire West and Chester Council. Anthony has returned to academia following a successful industrial career as an international public health practice programme manager.
Teaching and Supervision
Dr Olagunju teaches on the Master of Public Health course, providing leadership on communicable disease in public health and economics of health modules. In addition, he provides support to the delivery of epidemiology, theories and principles in public health, as well as research in public health practice modules.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Dr Olagunju's research interests focus on health inequalities and social justice particularly amongst vulnerable groups including neurodivergent individuals, people with disabilities, older people, people with divergent sexual identities, and children and women in distress. Previously, he completed research studies on exploring placental malaria amongst women living in areas of multiple social deprivations, and intersectionality of disability and stigma on the self and social identity of persons with albinism in Nigeria. Currently, he is co-supervising doctoral research studies on maternal and neonatal antimicrobial resistance in Bangladesh and perspectives of female sex workers and service providers on access to cervical cancer preventive services in Nigeria. He is an advocate for constructivist grounded theory research methodology and has a growing interest in mental health and sexual violence education & prevention.
