Senior Lecturer
Biography
Dr Bethan Stallwood is a Senior Lecturer in Microbial Ecology and Biotechnology. Bethan is the course leader for the MSc Biotechnology at University Centre Shrewsbury.
Teaching and Supervision
Bethan teaches across a number of undergraduate and postgraduate modules including Bio-engineering, Pathogenicity of Infectious Diseases, Applied Biotechnology, Essential Methods for the Biotechnologist and From Genes to Systems. Bethan's pedagogical interests are in project based learning, and developing teaching methods to enable independent thought.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Bethan's current research interests are in understanding what influences, and how to influence, microbial populations in anaerobic digesters to increase the efficiency of biogas production. Bethan is also leading research into understanding microbiomes, including the fate of antimicrobial resistance genes, in wildlife. Bethan uses Nanopore sequences, gene expression analysis and tradition microbiology to gain an insight into microbial population changes.
