Dr Carmel Edwards

Biography

Carmel became a full-time applied practitioner at Everton Football Club following completion of her PhD on Emotional Intelligence. The job title of Player Development Advisor represented the role that Carmel had, which focused predominantly on the areas of player wellbeing and sport psychology. During her time at Everton Carmel worked with young male players across all age groups, but her work was not exclusive to the young players, as Carmel's role also entailed working with coaches at the club and parents/guardians of players. After eight years at Everton FC Carmel joined the Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES) Department and is now a Senior Lecturer, Area Leader for Sport and Exercise Psychology and Programme Leader for the SES undergraduate programme.

Teaching and Supervision

Dr Edwards is an experienced lecturer, having joined the Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES) department at Chester in 2009. Dr Edwards teaches across a wide range of subject areas, including sport and exercise psychology, research methods and particularly enjoys promoting the multidisciplinary nature of SES via contributing to modules of this nature at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Dr Edwards has published on a wide range of topics, which include applied practice within sport psychology and the psychological concepts of perfectionism and resilience in sport. Dr Edwards has also contributed to multidisciplinary research relative to physical activity engagement and the socioeconomic status of primary school children. Dr Edwards’ research is always targeted at being meaningful and empowering to current and future practitioners within their respective area of employment/expertise.
