Biography
Derek France is Professor of Pedagogy in Geographical Sciences in the Division of Humanities, Culture and Environment at the University of Chester. Professor France provides academic leadership and staff development to support the enhancement of academic practice and pedagogy across the university and at school and subject level.
Teaching and Supervision
Professor France contributes to a wide range of undergraduate programmes, and is supervisor of postgraduate students. He has co-written and co-delivered a number of undergraduate modules across the breadth of physical geography. His teaching interests are strongly aligned to hands-on fieldwork experiences and are linked to authentic and interactive means of delivery and learning.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Professor France is a physical geographer, with specialist interests in the field of quaternary environment reconstruction. In recent years, his research interests have widened to a pedagogic focus, investigating the student learning experience with particular attention of the application of mobile technologies to enhance teaching and learning. Specialisms include e-learning and geographical fieldwork.
