Debs Mitchell
Senior Lecturer
Biography
Debs is a Senior lecturer in Practice Learning in the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Society at the University of Chester. She provides support to Nursing and Art Therapy students and provides a link between the university and the placement providers. She is a qualified therapist and has experience in leadership, supervision, and coaching. Debs sits on the Ethics committee and is a member of the British Association for counsellors and psychotherapy (BACP). She has an interest in trauma, having previously provided Debriefs for NHS employees and currently counselling for those having experienced trauma.
Teaching and Supervision
Debs teaches on leadership, change management and service improvement. She prepares nursing students for practice through a series of Prep for Practice sessions, so students are aware of what to expect and what is expected of them in practice. She supports the Creative Health Programme and supervisees Art Therapy Masters dissertation students. Due to her experience of supervision, she has provided clinical supervision training for NHS trusts.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Debs has been part of the research team for ‘Creative Health’ and her masters was on the experience of counsellors and nurses working in a hospital setting.
