Biography

Debbie Wyatt, RN, is an experienced Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society at the University of Chester. She supports the division of Nursing and Health Care Education and wider Faculty to develop and deliver quality education for learners at a range of academic levels and has a particular interest in cancer care and the applied sciences. In addition, her role as Faculty Credit Co-ordinator involves promoting flexible learning through credit transfer whilst ensuring that the University requirements for the Accreditation of Prior Learning (Certificated and Experiential) are met. Debbie is also a member of the European Oncology Nursing Society Education Working Group and Workstream 1 of ACCEnD: The Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development programme which aims to provide transformational reform in the education, training, and career pathways for nurses and AHPs throughout the UK, who support people affected by cancer.

Teaching and Supervision

Debbie Wyatt is an experienced lecturer who has taught a range of nursing and health related subjects on pre-registration, post registration and post graduate nursing and allied healthcare professional programmes. She has long standing interest and expertise in the applied sciences, cancer care and communication skills and continues to develop and deliver these topics in a range of programmes. She has undertaken various programme leader roles over the years but currently leads the MSc Professional Studies and BSc Professional Practice programmes.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Debbie's research work has focussed on cancer care, cancer education and cancer and intellectual disabilities, in particular, the impact of cancer education on practice, and the impact of cancer on those affected by the disease. She has a long standing interest in issues related to cancer and people with intellectual disabilities and her current research focusses on paid carers' knowledge of, and attitudes towards, cancer. Debbie has also co-edited a book on Cancer and Cancer Care.
