Dr Erin O'leary

Biography
Erin became Head of the Chester Law in January 2024, having previously been the Programme Leader for all undergraduate LLB Law programmes. Erin joined the Chester Law School in 2017 having previously worked in the University’s Centre for Foundation Studies. Erin also previously worked at Liverpool John Moores’ International Study Centre, and LJMU’s Law School. Whilst doing her PhD at LJMU, Erin worked as a research assistant within the department and was primarily responsible for assisting in the writing of the REF 2014 Impact Report and assisting with research for peer-reviewed publications. As well as her own publications, Erin has contributed to research on the principle of subsidiarity, collective security, state secession, parental alienation syndrome, current legal reform in China and 21st century comparative law.
Teaching and Supervision
Erin is the module leader for LA5002 EU Law, LA6036 Trade and Competition in the European Union, and LA6002 Undergraduate Dissertation. Erin also teaches on LA4007 Public Law and and LA4011 English Legal System and Method.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Erin’s main areas of interest are: International and European language rights; The Rule of Law and the EU; Inconsistent translation in ECJ case law; Western linguistic theory; Identity formation; Post-Enlightenment nation-state building theory.
